Strength, beauty and accuracy – they are each important in every Kilimanjaro creation. For the hunter, one shot does truly matter. The success of that shot will depend much on the hunter’s skills, but dependable accuracy of the rifle is also key. At Kilimanjaro, we maintain a rigorous quality assurance and testing program to ensure the accuracy of our rifles. That effort begins with the blue-printing and refinement of our actions with careful attention to the recoil resistance system (a common source of inaccuracy), fitting of a match grade barrel, chambering to match grade specifications, and precision crowning. All of these are important in achieving accuracy, but it is the mating of the barreled action to the stock that is most critical.
It is here that Kilimanjaro excels. Our exact wood to metal fit, precision in-letting and proper bedding of both action and barrel are all done by hand in the most labor intensive part of our production effort. Each rifle is different, and must be carefully tuned to achieve excellence. With the stability of the wood achieved through our Stealth Lamination process, we begin with full-length bedding of the barrel after exact mating of the barrel to the forearm to eliminate all pressure points and to provide greater resistance to variability from harmonic vibration.
Full barrel conditioning (break-in) is then conducted, and your rifle undergoes its initial accuracy testing and load development. Most of our rifles perform best with this full-length bedding with no pressure points. Others, however, perform best with slight pressure applied at different points along the forearm, and some perform best with free-floating. We tune your rifle during our testing process to maximize its accuracy, but initial free-floating of the barrel is available for those customers who desire it.
Your rifle must pass successfully pass this initial testing/tuning effort before proceeding to finishing and coating. Then, your rifle is tested/tuned again to ensure its accuracy, with its final load development. Test targets and ballistic charts for the recommended load come standard with your rifle.
Our official guaranty of accuracy, as confirmed by the test targets, is less than 1 MOA, but our internal standards for passing testing are stricter depending on the caliber. While not every rifle can achieve it, we strive in our tuning process to provide you 0.65 MOA or better in 30 caliber and below, and 0.75 MOA or better in the bigger bores.
